چکیده

A Practical GIS Method for Identifying Potential Wetland Mitigation Sites Track: Ecology, Archaeology, and Conservation Author(s): Mark Tucker Site selection plays a fundamental role in establishing a viable wetland mitigation site. A simple GIS-based approach to identifying potential mitigation sites is outlined. Ecological and logistical selection criteria were developed and assessed in riparian areas using GIS databases and aerial photography to search large areas within target watersheds and identify potential wetland mitigation sites. EDAW then performs site-specific analyses and makes final recommendations on the location of the mitigation site. This simple method allows us to effectively cover large areas and present several mitigation options for further field investigations. Grid - Based Modeling for Land Environmental Resource

Geographic Information System (GIS) technology is used by land managers and natural resource planners for examining resource distribution and conducting project planning, often by visually interpreting spatial data representing environmental or regulato~ variables. Frequently, many variables influence the decision-making process, and modeling can improve results with even a small investment of ...

Case Study: Application of the HGM Western Kentucky Low-Gradient Riverine Guidebook to Monitoring of Wetland Development

PURPOSE: One of many potential uses of the hydrogeomorphic (HGM) approach for assessing wetland functions is the monitoring of newly restored wetland sites to determine how quickly wetland functions develop and whether function-based mitigation objectives are being met. This technical note presents a case study of the application of the Western Kentucky Low-Gradient Riverine Guidebook to monito...

The Oldest Operating Wetland Mitigation Bank In The U . S . A Review

The construction of a wetland as a means of compensating for the loss of a natural wetland has been an operative practice in the management of the resource for many years. Generally, compensation by creation of new areas is a last resort in the mitigation sequencing used by wetlands management programs. Typically, development of a land parcel must first attempt to avoid any wetlands present. Wh...

GIS-Based Estimation of Wetland Conservation Potentials in Europe

In the EU different utilization demands compete with each other and space is limited. As a consequence, socio-economic considerations and economic activities play therefore an important part in land use management and conservation planning. Often the integration of conservation concerns in agricultural as well as forestry production land use models has been neglected. One reason is a lack of ac...
